Jay Launches Film Project

Larsen Jay and friends on Everest trip

Actor Hal Holbrook came to Knoxville in July to do an independent film under the auspices of UT theatre grad Larsen Jay’s DoubleJay Creative.

The film marked the launch of DoubleJay Creative’s new Dogwood Entertainment division and the division’s first feature film project.

I Hate to See that Evening Sun Go Down filmed in East Tennessee during July and August. The film is based on a short story by Tennessee author William Gay. Holbrook, recently nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in Into the Wild, plays the lead. The film is expected to be finished early next year in time for several film festivals.

DoubleJay Creative is based in downtown Knoxville and specializes in visual media, including documentaries. Dogwood Entertainment is based in Los Angeles.

DoubleJay Creative also worked on a documentary about the family of Everest pioneer Sir Edmund Hillary. Jay ’98 and his brother, Aaron, also a UT graduate, traveled to Mount Everest base camp for the project. Aaron owns a design firm in Ireland, Emagine Media.
