DC Young Alums Get Financial Tips

Jeff Hall with Young Alums in DC

Jeff Hall ’98, captain of UT’s 1998 national championship football team, captivated the audience Thursday, Aug. 14, in Washington, D.C.

The event was the first of a series for UT Young Alums outside of the greater Knoxville area. Hall’s presentation on best financial practices followed a networking reception and dinner. The practices, based on UT graduate/financial guru Dave Ramsey’s “Investment Philosophy,” are practical tips to better manage money.

The presentation was highlighted by “Dave Ramsey’s 7 Baby Steps.”

1. $1,000 in an emergency fund

2. Pay off all debt using the debt snowball

3. Three to six months of expenses in savings

4. Invest 15% of household income into Roth IRAs and pre-tax retirement

5. College funding plans

6. Pay off home early

7. Build wealth and give! Continue investing in mutual funds and real estate.

More events for UT Young Alums in Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington, and Knoxville are being planned in coordination with the Young Alumni Council and will be announced soon.
